Prabha Mishra has enjoyed a full and interesting broadcasting career spanning almost 40 years, beginning in Fiji, before moving to New Zealand and on to settle in Australia where she now calls Brisbane home. Determined not to lose her mother tongue and rich tapestry of culture, she has become a leading figure in Hindi language broadcasting recognised by peers in Fiji, India and across the globe.
Fluent in the Hindustani, English and Fijian languages, outside of her broadcasting she works as a mentor, host and is an active community worker, giving tirelessly to the wider community and respected for her wide and varied experiences. She was formerly recognised with the “Certificate of Appreciation to Australian Volunteers” for her contributions, dedications and commitment towards the Brisbane community.
Broadcasting Career
Prabha started her broadcasting career in 1981 with Fiji Broadcasting Commission as the chief presenter, broadcaster and programme organiser. This 2-hour weekday magazine style programme involved hosting, compiling, preparing and recording for her Hindustani audience.
After the 1987 coup, Prabha joined Wellington Access Radio in New Zealand presenting a similar style of programme.
She joined Community Radio Services, Melbourne in 1993, where she hosted “Indian Voice of Fiji” for two hours each week until moving to Brisbane in 2003.
Prabha is currently presenting “Indian Voice of Fiji” at Radio Brisvaani.
Today Prabha reaches an audience throughout Australia and around the world with live streaming as Brisvaani1701AM on Radio.Net.
